Freelance stylist-slash-photographer Eunice Alera recently told me of this wonderful project as part of an ongoing cause, supporting her friend who just underwent a heart surgery.

TO THE SAME BEAT was her and another friend’s brainchild — a small clothing collection composed of minimalist printed tops, each carrying a statement “The Beat Goes On”.

Surely, it may be easily mistaken as something to do with music. Yet, if we are on the same page, it rather depicts another meaning that has more depth.

It comes in tank top and unisex tees, and is available in black and white. Proceeds will all go to her friend to help.

In line with Levi’s Fall-Holiday Collection 2011, the premier denim brand also launched its Go Forth Campaign last September 1st at Whitespace Manila. Yours truly wasn’t present during the event, but here are some of the highlights nevertheless.

The Go Forth campaign, represented by four pioneering ambassadors, aims to create an impact on today’s generation — allowing them to show to the world what they can do in moulding the future with Levi’s as their trusted ally.

“Levi’s and the people who wear them now embody the energy and events of our times. And now, for the first time in the brand’s history, Levi’s is launching a truly global brand campaign that highlights youthful optimism and energy.” said Ronnie Celestial, Levi’s ASEAN Marketing Head.

Levi’s Go Forth Pioneers

Four individuals are culled for their exemplary work and passion.

Niccolo Cosme: Pioneer of Life

Fashion photographer Niccolo Cosme advocates in fighting the spread of HIV Virus. Pioneering with Headshot Clinic and The Red Whistle, Niccolo inspires many people to be aware of the alarming number of HIV cases in the Philippines.

Writer Nina Terol-Zialcita is a thought-mover and an excellent communicator. Nina revolutionizes the country with her wits, turning articles into campaigns.

Johnoy Danao: Pioneer of Music

Singer Johnoy Danao inspires the Filipino youth towards supporting Filipino music. A prodigy in his own right, a revolutionary in the local music scene and an independent sound mover, Johnoy encourages the younger generation to make Filipino music known to the world.

Divine Lee: Pioneer of Equality

A fashion show featuring Levi’s Fall-Holiday 2011 Collection was also held. The collection focuses on craftsmanship and innovation in jeans with its new styles and trends. It utilises the breakthrough Levi’s Curve ID system that is based on the woman’s shape instead of size, as well as Levi’s Waterless jeans that use 28% less water on the average and up to 96% less water in creating the wash or finish of the jeans.

Here are some of the pics from the show: (Warning: picture heavy)

Here’s one of the main reasons why I was missing in action a week ago. My beki (gay) girlfriends and I went out of town for a 2-day nature trip.

It was my first time in Bohol, and I was very excited to finally wear my halter keyhole dress for the first time as well. I bought it almost a year ago, and haven’t worn or sought ever since. It could have collected cobwebs for all I know. Ha-ha!

Goofing around with my friend I at Dauis Church

Wearing this frock was kinda hard for me, since it’s a keyhole dress. I’m not pretty comfortable donning it with just pasties on! Hahaha! Hence, I resolved to wearing a skin tone brassiere underneath. I know it’s a tad tacky, but way better than wearing a multicoloured or dark tinged one.

Isabel’s strong, provocative features embody that of an urban, independent working woman; which reminds me of Stana Katic’s Kate Beckett role in Castle.

The outfits reveal a sexy woman who is able to combine her masculine and feminine side to perfection. The colour palette focuses on black tones with white touches in the prints.

She’ll be replacing Scarlett Johansson, who’s been the image of the Spanish retailer for the past four seasons.

I’ve been very busy lately attending beauty events this month. One of which was NIVEA and Mango’s Glam Express Event held at Mango boutique in Rockwell Powerplant Mall last week.

I was slated to meet Jackie in person that very day, who happened to be a real-life barbie donning a chunky pair of Aldo platform clogs. Together with Earth, the three of us, being the early birds, formed a group and joined the styling contest. ‘Twas funny though that we didn’t focus on the contest’s goal, which was to style the fastest time. Nonetheless, Earth and I enjoyed playing stylistas-slash-buyers whilst dressing up Jackie as our gorgeous model.

Here’s Jackie sporting the “spring” peg.

L.A. Ferriols, who was such a darling donning an all white ensemble from Mango, hosted the event.

One of NIVEA’s brand managers, Raisa Mislang, talked about the science behind NIVEA Express Hydration Lotion, which I already made a review here.

Karen Chikiamco of Mango shared to us the clothing brand’s latest autumn-winter collection.

Yehey! Corp’s General Manager, Jay Arellano, discussed the Glam Board Express Facebook application, which is now available here.

ELLOS Bustier Draped Dress – £ 49.00

You can make the most of your curves simply by following a few fashion rules. Here, we have rounded up the best rules that apply to larger ladies. These are simple things that can work for all shapes. So, take a look and see if you can apply any of them to your daily wardrobe, whether it’s evening dresses or casual wear.

ELLOS Silver Tube Dress – £ 39.00

Figuring things out – you should have a good idea of what body shape you have, so research what is best for your shape as this can make a huge difference to your finished outfit.

Dark colours – while black is slimming, we do not want to encourage the larger ladies among us to live in it. Colour can give you a certain glow and hiding behind swathes of black clothes won’t enhance anything. Use black where appropriate but don’t be afraid to use colour. Pear shapes should wear dark on the bottom and light on the top, apple shapes or vice versa.

Go A-line – this is the best style to flatter all body types. A-line dresses or skirts will go in at the waist and then flare out, skimming over the hips and thighs. Great for disguising larger bottoms and legs.

V-necks are also a good look as they create length on the torso. A longer neck is slimming and this will also draw attention to the bust rather than down towards the waist.

Stripes – there is a bit of a myth about stripes and that larger shapes should only stick to vertical stripes. You CAN wear horizontal stripes but choose wisely, it is the type of stripe you wear that determines how they make you look. Vertical is the preferred option as they create length.

Heels are good for giving you a little extra height and therefore you will appear slimming. They do wonders or legs, making you look far smaller and more streamlined.

Last week, I received a gift from Giordano Philippines, including my very own Giordano Ball Tee.

I love my tee’s classic monochromatic print, complemented by bright yellow polka dots. You can get the ball tee for only Php 899. Mine’s small, which can fit from small to medium frames.

Print up-close

It has a loose fitting, which is perfect to pair with a bondage skirt and/or a pair of tights. Anything “skinny” at the bottom will do the trick.

I also got an umbrella and a smiley sphere-shaped jar in addition.

I’m not really into branded or designer umbrellas. I simply use the run-of-the-mill ones anyone can buy at the nearest supermarket or department store.

Umbrellas aren’t really my cup of tea. We’re not best of friends. I hate bringing one ‘coz it’s an added weight (and bulk) to my tote or backpack, not to mention the toll of time it takes just to tediously fold it back into its neat shape. But of course, I’ve no choice but to bring one especially when the rain starts pouring in.

They gave me a plain black tri-fold umbrella with a red Giordano logo print on it, which I likey. Black is my go-to colour by default. I honestly prefer umbrellas in monochromatic colours, since they blend well with any outfit. I opened it, and it seemed sturdy. Probably, it could withstand the violent gusts brought by typhoons of today. However, I couldn’t vouch any longer if it’s a supertyphoon.

The smiley jar piqued my curiosity. I didn’t know Giordano has beauty products until recently. It’s Giordano’s CheerÜup (perhaps, read as “cheer you up”) Body Butter.

Giordano CheerÜup Body Butter when opened

To my juvenile excitement, I tried it immediately. It was okay. I’m not sure if it works like Smiley Happy Therapy, which contains chemicals commonly found in chocolates that purport to elevate the mood. I wasn’t a fan of the body butter’s smell though, but its packaging’s just so adorable. I’m still amidst mulling whether to make a separate post-slash-review about it or not.

As for the Ball tee, I’ll try to post a decent picture soon. Please bear with me as I’m not really much of a “stylist”.

Burlesque bombshell and Cointreau brand ambassador Dita Von Teese has just launched her signature cocktail drink, aptly dubbed as “Cointreau MargaDita”.

For cocktail drinkers like me, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about Cointreau. It’s a French bitter orange-flavoured liqueur, which is usually mixed in cocktails such as the Margarita. Apart from another French liqueur Grand Marnier, it’s also usually infused in confectionaries like pralines and truffles.

And, who isn’t stunned by this flawless and bodacious burlesque queen? I must say that I’m such a fan!

Of course, she was in her usual impeccable self during the launch, wearing a floral vintage dress accentuated with an icterine and moss combo satiny sash and a matching clutch with feather detailing.

Neatly groomed brows, long and thick eyelashes, flushed cheeks and a bright red lipstick defined her oh-so-sexy-and-elegant look.

Cointreau MargaDita is a reinvention of the classic Margarita in Dallas which pays homage to Margarita Sames, the bon vivant Dallas socialite who created the original recipe in 1948 whilst vacationing at her Acapulco cliffside hacienda.

The tasty new libation includes Cointreau®, tequila, fresh lime juice, aromatic Monin Rose Syrup for a hint of floral, feminine perfume, and a dash of chipotle powder for an unexpected smack. It is garnished with the yellow rose of Texas as a further tribute to Ms. Sames.

According to Dita Von Teese, “The Cointreau MargaDita is a tantalising haute-cocktail with a spicy twist.”

The cocktail drink is currently available at The Mansion Bar at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas for $15; but, if you’re nowhere nearby the city, you can still try her version of Margarita by doing the concoction yourself at home!

Here’s the Cointreau MargaDita recipe:

1 oz Cointreau

1 oz Silver Tequila

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1/2 oz Monin Rose Syrup

1 pinch Chipotle Spice

Using a cocktail shaker filled with ice, mix the ingredients altogether. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled coup glass. Garnish it with Yellow Rose of Texas. Add a chipotle and salt rim for an extra kick.

Only at 27, Taiwanese-American fashion designer Alexander Wang has already reached such great heights in the fashion world – the latest bagging a GQ/CFDA menswear award. Just recently, I took a glance on some of his Fall 2011 runway frocks and separates which are now available on his website.

Alexander Wang’s Fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection isn’t really far from his usual signature style. His pieces are mostly in monochromatic colours, with the exception of a few in blush hue. I love how he intellectually caters a diversity of looks that suits every style profile. I am quite amazed on how the tailored pieces are, well, neatly and impeccably done comparable to a bespoke material. I also notice deconstruction amongst some pieces which borders to being modern and edgy sans losing luxury and sophistication.

Moving on, here are some of my picks:

Black Streamer Dress – $ 585

This dress is definitely meant for my edgy and fierce fashion friends. Made entirely in silk, it’s a fitted floor-length tank dress with pearl merrowed bias streamers at the bottom.

Draped Dress with Cummerbund Detail – $ 695

This one is something I’d really love to wear as it oozes with elegance. It’s like a royalty frock that Duchess Catherine would wear. This loose knee-length viscose dress is accentuated with a single shoulder draped overlay and a cummerbund waistband partially tucked under the draping.

Cut Away Blazer with Hybrid Cuff - $ 765

Alexander Wang is famed for androgynous womenswear, and this neatly tailored blazer is a perfect piece to pull off such look. It’s a boxy wool-nylon blazer with metal clip detail on tuxedo-style lapels and diagonal-cut hemline.

Black Hybrid Moto Pea Coat – $ 1,825

For a subtler biker chick look, this oversized leather pea coat fully lined in quilt fabric surely makes a bold yer “refined” statement. Its 100% calfskin leather is worth the hefty price tag.

Long Sleeve Intarsia Pullover – $ 480

I love how this seemingly plain and simple pullover in blush colour has an added “twist” at the back that utterly spells dramatic! I also like how it’s paired with a pair of grey track pants which complements the former without looking so tacky. Mainly made of semi-sheer shiny viscose, this intarsia pullover is slit at the centre back with ribbed trim at the neck, cuff and bottom opening.

Hybrid Tweed Ski Jacket with Raccoon Trimmed Hood – $ 1,695

Some who’s off to ski must look pretty stylish donning this lovely ski jacket in a mixed media of fabrics in tweed, leather and corduroy with fur-lined and raccoon-trimmed detachable hood. I heart the leather leg warmers to boot!

Kawakubo’s protege, Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garcons MAN, collaborated with Levi’s for this fall-winter season.

It seems like CDG has been religiously collaborating with other brands and designers as of recent. I heart its collab with H&M the most.

The jeans highlight the combination of leather and corduroy patchwork in Junya’s signature style. It’s available in Colette (Paris) for a whopping price of €775.

Inasmuch as the patchwork design looks kawaii, I wouldn’t shell out that big for a pair of these. :-/
