Jan Garcia - Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011

Jan Garcia‘s collection for Holiday 2011 is inspired by this glorious Morrocan “Red City” , hence dubbed as Marrakesh. You can actually sense the 70s vibe on most of the ensembles with the overt presence of flare and serpentina cut bottoms. Various mosaic-printed brocades are sewn together with white wool bouclé, forming patchwork detailing as seen on most skirts and pants. Gowns and other pieces feature buttress-like panels depicting the city’s architectural structures.

I must say that they look way much better in person than in stills. The scale-like patterns found on most tops are intricately made. I find the backless gowns quite dramatic. But what really piques my interest are the flare pants featuring a hodgepodge of multi-printed fabrics nicely combined altogether. I find the shiny metallic gold foil touches overpowering on the other hand. Though the gypsy flair is present on some of the pieces, there are others that look strikingly Japanese-y to me (the runway music might have been an added influence). The warm palette may not really represent the season, but the colour scheming isn’t so bad at all.
